Hard earned reward

Having burnt 6000 calories, I think I need to replace at least some of them!! After all, if I don’t all this Lycra might start to actually fit me – perish the thought!!!

We’ve arrived in Dover

After just under 10 hours on the bike and 81.66 miles, we have made it to the port of Dover. Let’s hope they let us on the ferry!!!

Riding along the cliff tops

Technically the subjects in the photo aren’t riding – they are waiting for part of the group to catch up. But they were cycling along the cliff tops – honest!!!

550 feet later

After a nice flat run along the seafront, we have climbed 550 feet in less than a mile to the top of the cliffs above Folkstone. Next stop Dover – need to be there by 5.30!!!

Sea-ahoy

When sailers spot land after weeks at sea, they shout “Land a-hoy”. So this cyclist, after 68 miles, has just shouted “Sea a-hoy!!!!”

The bridge over Teston

Lunch stop

40 miles done. We are over half way through the first day. And lunch is being served. It’s not food though, it’s fuel!

Spiritual needs have been catered for too!

First stop of the day

First pit stop of the day after 11 miles. We were told it was just a toilet break, but it was next door to this…. Unfortunately, there was no-one there at 9 o’clock in the morning!!!

The Grand Depart

In the great tradition of the Tour de France, we are all milling around waiting for someone to shout go!!! Well, that’s what we’re doing (maybe it’s not quite so laissez faire in a proper race!!!)
