Compare and contrast
June 9, 2011 | 7:40 amWe were at the hospital yesterday for Samuel’s quarterly HbA1c check and chat with the consultant.
His HbA1c was 6.9 – up slightly from 6.4 last time. Not great, as it’s going in the wrong direction. But not too bad as it’s still under 7 and we know the reasons why he went up. He’s had a growth spurt in the last couple of weeks – he’s grown 1.5cm since his last checkup – and apparently, growth hormones affect insulin requirement. Which has been the reason for him running high the week before last!
Compare that to last night.
He was 4.5 before eating his tea, 6.5 when he went to bed and 5.4 when he woke up this morning! Talk about control!
This thing called Type 1 Diabetes is what my Dad would call as “Buggers Muddle” – it really is!
