Two weeks to challenge two!

July 3, 2011 | 7:41 pm

The second of my ‘Four4aCure’ challenges is now just under two weeks away.

On Friday week, I will be boarding the train with my bike and heading up to Whitehaven, Cumbria for three days of riding up and down hills over the Lake District to Newcastle and the North Sea Coast.

Whilst not that long at 130 miles, the Coast to Coast route is challenging because of the number of hills there are, especially on the first day in the Lakes.

In preparation for this, I went training this morning in the High Peak just South West of Sheffield. Parking up in Sheffield City Centre, Stuart and I rode the route shown below.

The most important part of today’s ride was the “Elevation Gain” figure of 3411 ft. Elevation Gain is another way of saying “How much climbing I did” or “How hard I’ve worked”. When it equates to 3411 ft, it also means “Ouch”!

It wasn’t all work, however.

It was a beautiful day for riding, and we had a breakfast stop in the lovely village of Hope at the famous Woodbine Cafe. They like cyclists here. They even have a place to hang your hat… er I mean bike!

Beans on toast taste so much better when you’ve done a bit of climbing!
