Next years challenge
December 10, 2010 | 8:19 pmWhen the weather is as bad as this, I get a lot of time to think about cycling and not a lot of time on my bike.
My mind has turned to next years challenge. And Nikki spotted this on the JDRF web site.
It sounds absolutely fantastic! Has anyone done this before? Or something similar?
Reading through the itinerary, two issues come to mind.
Firstly, I would need to raise £3,500!! And that goes up to £4,150 if I wanted to do the five day event. No small amount.
Secondly, there is some serious climbing involved and I’ve no idea whether I could do it. That’s what makes it a challenge I suppose. The guide said:
How fit do I need to be?
This is an extreme cycle challenge and you should be at the level of club cyclist and regularly cycling up large hills to be able to undertake this challenge. You should be able to maintain 25 mph on the flat.
Well, I can do 25mph on the flat.. but for how far? Half a mile? Yeah, sure. A Mile? Probably. When you start going up to decent distances though, I’ve no idea. It’s not flat around here. I can average 16-17mph over a couple of hours, but we never cycle on the flat so it’s hard to know what level I am at.
I think I need to join a club, to find my level. That would certainly help with the training.
As for the fundraising…. Maybe they could sponser me???
