Clock watching…

It makes a change from watching Sam’s bloods.

But watching the clock is the only option this weekend. Samuel is away for two nights at a Scout’s weekend camp. He has the responsibility of watching his bloods himself. This is the first time he will do it all alone. Of course, he will have to do this more and more. And practice makes perfect.

Samuel has been on countless Scout camps and is perfectly capable of looking after his bM levels. He knows how to count carbs and has his ‘Carbs and Cal’s’ book with him. He has good awareness of when he is going low and deals with it at school on a daily basis. And he needs these experiences to learn from.

Back at home however, my mind starts to wonder about all the complications that could ensue (I shan’t list them here!!) but I don’t suppose this is the preserve of parents with Diabetic children. I never worried like this before he was diagnosed however, and I do wonder if we’ve asked him to do too much too early. After all, Samuel was diagnosed less than 12 months ago and is still only 11 years old.

Oh well… only 24 hours to go!
