Infusion Site breakdown
February 24, 2011 | 7:56 pmSamuel’s blood’s have been pretty good for the last couple of weeks, except when we approach the end of his third day on his infusion site.
The site needs changing every 3 days and for the last couple of times, he has been going high in the day before we change it. Wierd that it has started doing this all of a sudden. If it carries on, we may have to change the site more frequently.
This will obviously lead to us going through more sites. We are lucky that we don’t have to worry about who pays, but someone certainly does and I wonder if we will come up on their radar?

Hi, when my daughter first started on an insulin pump we were very quickly met with the problem of bleeding around the cannula. The tissue in the area seemed to be breaking down. She uses emla creme before insertion and we found that washing the creme off completley before insertion resolved this problem. We had been taught to just wipe the creme with a dry cloth. This was not enough but washing with cooled boiled water has solved the problem. She has been on a pump now for almost two years. Hope this helps, good luck.
