Coast 2 Coast Challenge – Keswick to Alston
July 27, 2011 | 8:43 pmThe route for day 2 took us out of Keswick town centre and after a short ride along some lovely cycle paths by the river, we started to climb…
Most of the day was spent climbing, as you can see from the profile.
At the top of the big hill with 40 miles under our belt, we stopped at a cafe for a cup of tea, and I was lucky enough to arrive just before the heavens opened. Some weren’t so and got more drenched than ever.
This was the front as it rolled in. It took about a minute to come in and then let loose. Have you ever seen a square cloud before?
From the top of the hill, we then rolled down steadily down into the small and pretty town of Alston on the Cumbria/County Durham border.
Upon arrival at the Youth Hostel, we stowed all our bikes and then stuck all the wet cycling gear in the drying room. Needless to say, it hadn’t dried out the next morning…. warm and moist!!
