Blinded by the lights, camera, action!

The video has been up a few days now and a lot of people had have chance to see it on Youtube. (At the time of writing over 14,000 people).

I don’t know how many people were expected to view it and whether this is a lot or not, by the producers standards. I just hope that it is being seen by people who might recognise some of the symptoms and act on them.

If most of those people viewing it are already Diabetic, or Parents of Diabetics, it will go down as preaching to the converted somewhat.

I remember this was my only concern when asked by Diabetes UK to speak to the producers about our experiences with Sam’s symtoms.

Far be it for me to undermine the excellent work that has been done with this video, but there is a part of me that wonders whether we should be concentrating on finding a cure.

If a child is going to develop Type 1 Diabetes, there’s nothing you can do about it. Recognising it early can prevent hospitalisation for DKA, which is obviously a good thing. And this is why I agreed to help, given Sam’s experiences

However, I sincerely hope the main focus remains on finding a cure, as well as bringing the artificial pancreas to market as soon as possible (which is the first step on the road to a full cure).

It would be a terrible shame if good work like this video actually ended up being a distraction from the main goal…
