Onto the next challenge…. or two!
November 26, 2012 | 11:06 pmNo sooner have I bored you senseless with my tales of doing the London Triathlon than its time to tell you about my next set of challenges!
The most recent Triathlon in London was my longest to date, and I have found that I like the challenge of increased distances! To this end, next year, I am increasing the distances even more.
In doing so, my main challenge will be the longer runs. I am pretty comfortable swimming longer distances and more than happy riding them, but running, well thats a different thing altogether.
I have entered a half distance Ironman Triathlon next year called the Half Outlaw. This consists of a 1.2 mile swim, a 56 mile bike ride and a 13.2 mile run. I’ve swum and cycled these distances regularly but the furthest I’ve ever run in one go is 9 miles.
The best way to build up the miles is to have a goal, and not wanting to do things by halves… (who.. me???) I have managed to get a place in the London Marathon next April.
I need to raise £1,800 for JDRF to be allowed to compete – no small matter and I’m sure you’ll hear more about that in the coming months.
The longer triathlon isn’t until 2nd June next year, six weeks after the London Marathon.
So for the next few cold, dark winter months, I will reduce the bike rides and the swims to one each a week, and will focus on running….
*Gulp*
