Do you stab your child 4 times a day?
November 4, 2010 | 9:28 pmSamuel’s pump arrives tomorrow morning!
That’s like 12 hours away. Now I’m excited!
Every injection Samuel has had for the last couple of days has been like a countdown. Yesterday, I said “Only one more day of these…”. Tonight, when we did his NovaRapid with dinner, “This could be your penultimate injection, ever!!”
That’s not strictly true, as he may have to have control injections from time to time. And the needles will have to stay in reserve in case we have a pump malfunction of some sort. So probably not the penultimate injection… ever. But the thought of not having to administer the damned injections on a daily basis feels very liberating.
From the day he was diagnosed, it has always struck me as almost Neanderthal that in the 21st Century, we still ‘stab’ a 10 year old boy four times a day and call it treatment! We’ve got nothing on Victorian England have we?
Perhaps tomorrow, we will move into the 20th Century.
Note I didn’t say the 21st Centuary. Let’s not forget, he still has to prick himself to test his blood sugar. But it is certainly progress, and for that, we are very grateful.
