A Sunday afternoon walk from Hathersage
November 8, 2010 | 11:15 pmWe took Grandma for a walk from Hathersage on Sunday. The autumn weather was perfect for walking.
And a walk in the country deserves a nice cup of tea and a slice of cake after, which we got in style in Hathersage. The walk we did was found here, and although we got lost a bit at the beginning, it’s just the right length for a leisurely stroll and isn’t too taxing for children.
This was one of the first chances we got to use Samuel’s new insulin pump in the wild and, Interestingly, it showed up some of its main advantages. These being that Sam can have an insulin dose very qucikly whenever he wants, and that when we are out and about, its very discreet – we dont have to get needles out, roll up clothing to expose his belly and inject him in broad daylight.
To a ten year old boy, I suspect the second advantage is one of the main pluses. Taking a four mile walk out into the countryside with young kids means you need to keep them interested. Whilst we are enjoying the scenery, they are complaining about the climb being tiring on their legs!! So little rewards go a long way. “Let’s get to the top of this hill and you can have a choccy biscuit” This isn’t such an incentive for Sam if he is faced with the problems that needles bring. But the ease of dosing insulin means that these rewards aren’t so taxing, and something that Sam can sign up to once more.
Our walk took us up the valley,
What is it about children and water…?
